Jared Fryar Will Honor His Grandfather and Short Track Legend Freddy Fryar in CARS Tour Throwback 276

Mooresville, NC 7/15/21 – Defending CARS Late Model Stock Tour champion Jared Fryar doesn’t have to look far to find his inspiration for the CARS Tour 4th Annual Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway on July 31st. Fryar will honor his grandfather Freddy Fryar in the 4th annual event.

The late great Fryar, known as “The Beaumont Flyer” won over 800 short track races in his career throughout the Deep South. Most notably was Fryar’s 1979 and 1981 Snowball Derby victories.

His grandson Jared will replicate Fryar’s Super Late Model scheme from the 1979-1982 Super Late Model seasons.

With that scheme Fryar scored his second Snowball Derby win in 1981. The following season Fryar came up one spot short in the 1982 Derby, just shy of becoming a three time race winner. In addition to wins at Five Flags Speedway, Fryar scored multiple victories at Mobile, Birmingham, Austin, and San Antonio all with the exact paint scheme that will showcase in this year’s Throwback 276.

Unfortunately the short track racing legend Freddy Fryar passed away this April at the age of 85.

Grandson Jared Fryar currently sits fourth in the championship standings just seven points out of the lead. He is one of only two drivers that has posted five top finishes through the first seven events this season.
