The final race on the 2022 Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour season in the North-South Shootout at Caraway Speedway featured a pair of drivers earning their first career poles in the series.
In the CARS Pro Late Model Tour, Caden Kvapil kicked off his quest to sweep both races at Caraway by setting the fastest time of 13 cars, while veteran Trevor Ward starts the CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour feature up front after posting a time of 16.873.
Ward has been a part of the LMSC Tour since making his debut at South Boston Speedway in 2017. Through 35 career starts, Ward has finished inside the Top 5 twice, with his best performance being a fourth-place finish at Hickory Motor Speedway in 2020.
Carson Kvapil, who formally wrapped up the 2022 LMSC Tour championship at South Boston a couple of weeks ago, lines up fifth on the starting grid. Carson opened up his stellar campaign by bagging a $30,000 race-winning paycheck in the Old North State Nationals at Caraway back in March.
Carson’s younger brother Caden will be going for his third PLM Tour victory on Saturday afternoon. Facing a 19-point deficit to Luke Fenhaus in the PLM Tour standings with a 13-car field on hand, Caden can not mathematically get back into championship contention.
Fenhaus dominated the PLM portion of the Old North State Nationals before being passed by Caden in the closing stages. He will look to close out his championship campaign by earning his first win of 2022.
On-track action for the North-South Shootout begins at 1:30 p.m. ET with the 100-lap PLM Tour feature. The LMSC Tour feature is the third race of the day and will be contested for 125 laps.
