Summer Stretch Grind for CARS Late Model Stock Tour Competitors Will Define Season for Many

Mooresville, NC 4/29/21 – While the ink in still drying in the history books from the 3rd Annual Old North State Nationals at Orange County Speedway, there’s no time to waste on what lays ahead for teams and drivers. A summer stretch of four Late Model Stock Car stand-alone events over the next seven weeks will quickly heat up the 2021 season.

The first of these four events will take place at Ace Speedway on Friday May 7th. It will be the season’s only “Friday Night Lights” event on the 2021 calendar, making it a bit different atmosphere.

Two drivers instantly stand out when talking about threats to win at the 4/10th mile paper clip shaped track. Bobby McCarty and Ryan Millington will be tough to beat given their success at Ace Speedway. McCarty is the current CARS points leader over Deac McCaskill by a single tally, but Ace is the veterans strongest track on the circuit having picked up one win in three series starts, and has never finished outside the top ten. The same can be said for Millington who competes very rarely with the tour. Millington has one of the best average finishes (3.67) in the series three events at the Elon, North Carolina facility. Millington happens to be the defending winner of the 2020 Race at Ace 125, and one would think without question he will return again on May 7th.

Two weeks and a day later on Saturday May 22, the series will travel just forty minutes away from Ace Speedway to make its first ever visit to Caraway Speedway in Sophia, North Carolina. Another 4/10th mile track in North Carolina; however, Caraway features wide sweeping turns on both ends of the facility. While there is no clear prediction of what kind of racing the track will produce, it will be an excellent opportunity for CARS Tour fans from both East and West of the state to see the series competition at new facility.

The month of June finally sees the series cross the border north to the state of Virginia for a pair of races.

On June 5th, the series will be back to the track that annually has produced some of the closest and most exciting last lap and unpredictable finishes in series history, Langley Speedway. Located in Hampton, Virginia, it is the Late Model Stock’s furthest visit north, allowing several local competitors to battle with the touring stars. Terry Carroll, Justin S. Carroll, and Brenden Queen are just a few of the local drivers who have made their series debut when the series visits their home track.

Despite having Langley local track knowledge, Layne Riggs has been the cream of the crop at the Hampton, Virginia race track. Riggs has one win in the series’ two visits to the track, and is the only driver to score top five finishes in both races. With an average starting position of 1.50 and an average finishing position of 3.00, there’s no doubt all eyes will be on Layne Riggs at Langley.

The final race of the seven-week stretch concludes at Dominion Raceway for the Radley Chevrolet 125 on Saturday, June 19th. Steve Britt’s facility in Thornburg, Virginia is one of the most attractive facilities in the nation, and is a fan favorite to visit if one would ever get the opportunity. The track will produce some of the fastest speeds all season, which will lead drivers to be on edge, and create an opportunity for mistakes to be made.

The track has a history of producing a variety of different winners, which in several cases has been drivers getting their first career win. Johnathan Findley did exactly that a year ago, stunning the crowd and giving the hometown driver a victory, he will never forget. Defending series champion, Jared Fryar earned his first ever CARS Late Model Stock Tour race in 2017 at Dominion Raceway. Layne Riggs is another driver who has won at Dominion and will be in attendance, fighting to continue proving his CARS Tour dominance in the state of Virginia.
