Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour Event Preview pres. by Accent Imaging: Radley Chevrolet 125 at Dominion Raceway – August 8, 2020

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 5, 2020) – The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour is in full swing as the Late Model Stock Cars return to Dominion Raceway in Thornburg, Virginia on Saturday night for the Radley Chevrolet 125.

Two-time and defending CARS Late Model Stock Tour champion Bobby McCarty raced to victory lane for the first time in 2020 after leading flag-to-flag in Saturday night’s Cloer Construction 125 at Hickory Motor Speedway. With the win, the No. 22 moved to third in the points standings. McCarty trails championship leader Jared Fryar by eight points and Corey Heim, who is second in the standings, by three points.

Three different drivers have visited victory lane in CARS Tour races at Dominion Raceway. Layne Riggs and Jared Fryar won the pair of races when the series made its first visit in 2017, and Josh Berry scored the win a year ago.

Mini Tyrrell returns home with confidence

Mini Tyrrell scored his first career Hedgecock Chassis Pole Award at Hickory on Saturday and backed it up with a third-place finish in the Cloer Construction 250 — a career-best finish for the Manassas, Va. native. That performance gives Tyrrell a confidence boost heading home to Dominion Raceway, where he finished fourth last year – his best finish prior to Hickory.

“It definitely boosts our confidence as a whole team,” Tyrrell said. “We had a solid run all night at Hickory. Winning the pole was just amazing, that was so cool. We had a really solid car at the beginning. About lap 85, the car just got a little bit loose on me. We took some notes, and now we come home to Dominion. Hopefully we can chase after a win.”

Findley hopes to rebound at home track

Dominion Raceway is also the home track of Bristow, Virginia’s Jonathan Findley. The Lee Faulk Racing and Development driver competed at Dominion Raceway’s predecessor, Old Dominion Speedway, before its closure in 2012. Between Old Dominion Speedway’s closure and Dominion Raceway’s opening in 2016, he went south to race at Southern National Motorsports Park, where he won the 2015 track championship. Findley, who is making his second start in the CARS Tour at Dominion Raceway this weekend, is hoping that the jump to Lee Faulk’s team will make the difference at home.

“It’ll be interesting considering I am not with my family-owned team, especially being that close to home,” Findley said. “It’s only 45 minutes from my house. I have a lot of family and friends that are coming to watch. We’ve raced there once this year with my family and it didn’t go too well, so I’m hoping for something better.”

Currently in his second season of CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car racing, Findley is still chasing his first top-five after a string of rough finishes.

“I hope to perform better than I did at Hickory this past weekend,” he said. “We just missed it on the setup. The car was good — it turned great, it just turned too much and lacked forward drive and it definitely showed. It’s been frustrating, considering the year we had last year, and this year hasn’t been much better. We’ve had good cars everywhere we’ve gone, but just haven’t had good luck.”

CARS Tour Policies to Prevent Spread of COVID-19 Continue

The CARS Tour’s COVID-19 policies will continue to be in effect for this weekend’s race at Dominion Raceway. They include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • All personnel will have their temperature screened before entering the race track.
  • Driver Intros will not be held amongst the crowd, per usual; instead, drivers will be introduced from their cars on the grid.
  • Trailers will be spread out across the infield to maintain proper social distancing.
  • Spotters will be required to wear masks during the race.
  • Masks will be strongly recommended for those who are in the infield and required for all Victory Lane celebrations.
