MOORESVILLE, N.C. (August 24, 2021) – The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour returns to the Motor Mile Speedway in Fairlawn, Virginia after last racing at the 4/10th mile track during the 2019 season. QUICK HITS
Looney Looks for Familiar Victory Lane
Mike Looney had plans to compete for the 2021 CARS Late Model Stock Tour championship title, but after a slow start to the season those plans changed. Looney skipped the Ace Speedway event in May and again in June when the Tour traveled to Langley Speedway. Looney and his team spent that time refocusing on winnings races. Capturing wins at weekly events including South Boston and Motor Mile got the team back on track. Now Looney heads to his home track of the tour with a more positive momentum. Looney, should he get mechanical issues behind him, would have to be not only a crowd favorite, but an overall favorite to pick up his first series win this Saturday evening.
Starting Up Front Pays Dividends
If one looks back at the series history books on races at Motor Mile for both the Late Model Stock and Super Late Model divisions, they will notice that qualifying up front is the key to success. In the Late Model Stock division winner’s (Josh Berry 2015 / Bobby McCarty 2019) have an average starting position of 2.5. With the Super Late Model class, very similar circumstances apply with the two event winners (Zane Smith 2015 / Bubba Pollard 2019) averaging a 5.5 starting position.
Long Run Transportation…Long Run McDonald
Long Run Transportation is this weekend’s event title sponsor. The company owned and operated by Gary Kale, is a long-time support of the CARS Tour. It’s fitting that this event at Motor Mile attracts many drivers who make a “long run” to attend the event, traveling from as far south as Florida to as far north as Nova Scotia, Canada. Austin McDonald and his team will make the long run south to compete in the CARS Tour event. McDonald competes normally on the PASS North and the Maritimes Pro Stock Tour. The Canadian youngster will try his hands at taking the hardware home to the great white north.
The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour is one of the premier short track series in the United States. Drivers compete in Late Model Stock Cars and Super Late Models at the best short tracks across the Carolinas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Virginia. The CARS Tour can be found on Facebook at “CARS Tour”, on Twitter @CARSTour, and on Instagram as @CARS_Tour.
