Rain postpones Puryear Tank Lines 125 at Ace Speedway

Despite the best efforts of the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour to get Saturday’s Puryear Tank Lines 125 at Ace Speedway started, Mother Nature ultimately took home the victory.

Persistent rainfall arrived at the track shortly after the first and only practice session of the day concluded. Once it became apparent that the rain would not let up, CARS Tour owner Jack McNelly and Ace track operator Robert Turner made the difficult decision to postpone all on-track activity.

Saturday was the CARS Tour’s second attempt at running the Puryear Tank Lines 125 following an unfavorable forecast the previous day. McNelly was optimistic that a window would open up but knew that a green flag would not be possible after seeing the Saturday forecast gradually deteriorate.

“This definitely sucks,” McNelly said. “Some guys were here Thursday, went home and then came back only for the rain to return. Weather is the one thing you can’t control and there was nothing we could do about it.”

No makeup date was announced when McNelly informed drivers and teams of the postponement shortly after 6 p.m.. McNelly admitted that it will be tough to find an ideal date for the Puryear Tank Lines 125 and believes that the race will likely immediately follow or precede one on the schedule.

Drivers entered in the Puryear Tank Lines 125 can use their tires from Ace at the next race in Franklin County Speedway for practice. Entries from Ace will also be transferred over into that event as well.

While Turner was disappointed to see the Puryear Tank Lines 125 postponed, he did give away all concessions for free to drivers and crew members at Ace. He is expecting a great crowd for the new date and the second CARS Tour race at Ace on Aug. 12.

With the Puryear Tank Lines 125 indefinitely postponed, McNelly is turning his attention towards Franklin County, which featured a fantastic battle for the win that saw Jared Fryar hold off Mike Looney during the CARS Tour’s most recent visit in 2020.

McNelly is hoping for another exciting event at Franklin County in two weeks, along with a much more favorable forecast.

“We have to get this weather monkey off our back,” McNelly said. “It’s May and we’ve only had one decent weekend. However, I am looking forward to Franklin County as it’s a great little racetrack. The support they get there is phenomenal, and these guys love to race in front of big crowds. They’ll get that at Franklin County.”

The CARS Tour will head to Franklin County on May 21. Additional details about the rescheduled Puryear Tank Lines 125 will be announced later.
