MOORESVILLE, NC (Feb. 26, 2020) – The Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour has announced that the Orange County Visitors Bureau is returning as the title partner of the Old North State Nationals at Orange County Speedway. The event will take place between April 3-5 and is the highest-paying Late Model Stock race in the state of North Carolina.
The “Old North State Nationals presented by Visit Orange County” will be a multi-day Late Model Stock race, paying $30,000 to the winner and $1,250 to start the feature event. The track will open for practice the morning of Friday, April 3, with a fan fest to follow that evening in downtown Hillsborough, N.C.
The “Old North State Nationals Qualifying Races presented by GXS Wraps” headline the slate of racing on Saturday, April 4. GXS Wraps is the 2019 Orange County Chamber of Commerce Micro Enterprise of the Year. They join the Old North State Nationals as the presenting partner of the Qualifying Races for the first time in 2020.
On Sunday, April 5, the best short track drivers in the Carolinas will compete in the Second Annual Old North State Nationals presented by Visit Orange County. Drivers will compete in a 200-lap feature event with a purse over $85,000 as they fight to join Lee Pulliam as an Old North State Nationals champion.
Last year’s inaugural Old North State Nationals drew fans from across the nation to Orange County, as a near-capacity crowd was on hand for the feature race. The event has quickly developed into a major race on the annual Late Model Stock calendar and a major event for Orange County as a whole.
The Old North State Nationals also showcase what Orange County has to offer, especially for the fans, competitors and media members traveling to the area for the event. The Orange County Visitors Bureau encourages all to explore lodging, restaurants, stores and attractions in the nearby towns of Chapel Hill, Carrboro and Hillsborough.
“Last year’s inaugural Old North State Nationals was an overwhelming success. The Orange County Visitors Bureau did a tremendous job supporting the event within the community, and the community responded by supporting those people visiting the area for the event,” said CARS Tour Series owner Jack McNelly. “We have greater expectations for the 2020 iteration of the Old North State Nationals and welcome the support of the Orange County Visitors Bureau to achieve them.”
