Old North State Nationals Early Entries Include Super Late Model Stars, Series Title Contenders, and Logistical Possibilties

Mooresville, NC 3/31/21 – It still may be several weeks until Late Model Stocks teams across the Mid-Atlantic roll through the gates of Orange County Speedway for the $30,000 to win Puryear Tank Lines “Old North State Nationals” presented by GXS Wraps, but the early entry list points to the building of an aptitude of talent attempting to make the 28 car starting field.

A pair of Super Late Model superstars in Bubba Pollard and Stephen Nasse have both filled entries for the event. Pollard will be behind the wheel of the #26 R&S Chassis ride owned by Marcus Richmond. Pollard made his series debut behind the wheel of a Late Model Stock Car at Ace Speedway a season ago. Nasse on the other hand will get his first ever opportunity to compete in a Late Model Stock courtesy of Fat Head Racing. Nasse is coming off a $10,000 to Super Late Model victory at Greenville-Pickens Speedway on April 10th.

Another big name who is trying to get the logistics worked out to compete in the big event is most recent NASCAR Xfinity Series winner and 2017 CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour champion, Josh Berry. Berry, who is all time CARS Tour wins leader, drives for JR Motorsports and will compete in Saturday afternoon’s Xfinity race at Talladega as his top priority. However; Berry and company are attempting to get the logistics in place to compete in North Carolina’s biggest pavement race of the season.

Also usually behind the wheel of a Super Late Model is Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina driver Trevor Noles, who has partnered up with Lee Faulk Racing for the show. Tyler Matthews returns to his part-time series schedule driving for Lee McCall after a head turning finish last race out at Hickory. R&S Racecars Rookie of the Year contender Connor Jones looks to get his early season woes turned around in the season’s biggest race as well.

When speaking about rookies one doesn’t usually talk about the championship points leader but that is exactly the position Sam Butler is in as his PRW team prepare for the Old North State Nationals. Butler, who is tied at the top spot with multi-time champion Bobby McCarty, has a pair of third place finishes to start the year off.

Hometown heroes Justin Johnson from nearby Roxboro, and former track champion Layne Riggs, who calls Bahama home, will be two favorites to keep the “Carolina Cut Out” trophy close to home. Both drivers have big fan bases in the region and will have strong support throughout the weekend.

Veteran Ronald Hill who retired a season ago from full-time CARS Tour competition returns to the track at his home base facility in Rougemont for his chance at his first ever win. The veteran of 58 series starts, second all-time, will also be a fan favorite both on track and in the camping section with his Garder Marsh Racing team always providing hospitality for CARS Tour fans.
