CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour Competitors Impact Martinsville 300 in a Big Way

Mooresville, NC 9/21/21 – The largest attended Late Model Stock Car race of the 2021 season takes place this weekend at Martinsville Speedway in Martinsville, Virginia. Seventy-eight drivers are attempting to compete in Saturday night’s Martinsville 300.

While it might not be a CARS Tour sanctioned event, if one looks at the entry list, the CARS Tour once again in 2021 has a strong hand in the Late Model Stock scene.

Twenty-nine of the seventy-eight cars entered this weekend have made CARS Tour starts at some point during the 2021 season. With three championship races remaining, having 37% of the entered competitors for Martinsville turn laps in CARS Tour races, it says a lot about the quality of competition the series has once again produced this season.

“I think it says a lot about our competitors and the quality of races they put on, “ noted Series Owner, Jack McNelly. “Once again this season we have a great championship battle on our hands. We’ve had first time winners and some great competition. We wish the event great success, and for our sake we hope it is a CARS Tour competitor who gets to take home the Grandfather clock at the end of the night.”

Of those set to compete in this weekend’s event, Josh Berry the event’s defending winner, has to be a favorite to look out for. He added two more CARS Tour victories to his resume this season as well as an Xfinity Series win at Martinsville in the spring.

Current series points leader Bobby McCarty will also be a heavy favorite. The Nelson Motorsports driver has excelled in recent events and carries heavy momentum into the weekend.

Other heavy hitters include series Rookie of the Year leader Kaden Honeycutt and his car owner and fellow competitor Justin Johnson. Layne Riggs has had a tough year on the tour, but his ability always shines through at the Martinsville half-mile track.

Bubba Pollard, Sammy Smith, and Corey Heim have all made their mark on the CARS Tour in 2021 and in previous seasons. While the above drivers have competed in more Super Late Model races than Late Model Stock Car races with the series, they have the ability to breakthrough for a Martinsville 300 victory.

CARS Late Model Stock Tour teams will have a busy month ahead after the conclusion of the Martinsville 300 weekend. October 2nd the series travels to Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina for the Aaron’s 125. Followed by Florence, we will be returning to the state of North Carolina the very next week for the Wake County 125 at Wake County Speedway in Raleigh. Finally, the 2021 championship will be decided on October 16th at South Boston Speedway in Virginia for the running of the AutosByNelson.com 250.
