Brandon Pierce Reflects on Bobby Allison’s 1971 Cup Win at Bowman Gray for CARS Tour Throwback 276

Mooresville, NC 7/20/21 – Brandon Pierce will duplicate Bobby Allison’s 1971 Cup wining ride at Bowman Gray Stadium on August 6, 1971 for the 4th Annual Honeywell Home “Throwback 276” presented by Baker Distributing at Hickory Motor Speedway on July 31st.

The race won by Allison on that day was the final Cup Series event held at the ¼ mile track, though then the series was referred to as the Grand National Series at the time. Allison outlasted Richard Petty in the 250 lap race, as they finished both a lap ahead of their closest competitors.

In addition to honoring the Hall of Famer Allison, Pierce decided on this year’s Throwback 276 scheme as it is the first race that his father Vann Pierce remembered attending in person with his grandfather.

Allison’s’ win and the Coca-Cola signage was enough to make the elder Pierce a fan of Bobby Allison for the entire length of his career. That was also the moment that Vann Pierce would fall in love with sport of short track racing, eventually leading to his son Brandon Pierce becoming a CARS Late Model Stock Car Tour winner in 2019 at Southern National Motorsports Park.

The opportunity to honor Allison, bring back memories for his father, and have a good looking nostalgic ride, made this scheme the perfect fit for Pierce for the 4th Annual Throwback 276 at Hickory Motor Speedway.

Tickets for the 4th Annual Baker Distributing “Throwback 276” presented by Honeywell Homes are $20 in advance and $25 at the gate on sale via the CARS Tour website at www.carsracingtour.com. Fans can also pre order Throwback 276 merchandise via the website by clicking on the “Store” button located on the menu at the top of the page.
