A Look Back at 2020: CARS Tour Event Award Winners

Mooresville, NC 11/23/20 – As the calendar year approaches Thanksgiving holiday, the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour looks back on drivers who captured the most event and annual awards during the 2020 season. Pole awards, Hard Charger awards, Hometown Hero awards, and Rookie of the Year titles were all bonus award programs distributed throughout the season.

LATE MODEL STOCK CARS

TORP Chassis Rookie of the Year – Connor Mosack

The Charlotte, North Carolina driver took command of the rookie of the year race from the season opening event and never looked back. Driving for JR Motorsports, Mosack was consistently in the hunt for the 2020 championship hunt until the final few races of the season, before eventually finishing 6th in series standings. In ten races Mosack compiled three top five finishes and eight top ten finishes, besting rookie runner up by three positions in the final championship standings.

Hedgecock Racing Most Pole Awards – Layne Rigs & Corey Heim

Much like the win column this season, the pole award winner in Hedgecock Racing Pole Qualifying saw a variety of different winners. Corey Heim’s two pole wins came at Langley and Hickory driving for Lee Pulliam Performance. Heim finished second at Langley, while scoring his lone win of the season at Hickory. Heim’s 2020 performance placed third in the final championship standings, just behind the driver who also scored two pole awards in 2020, Layne Riggs. Riggs not only scored two pole awards (Carteret & Florence) in 2020, he was also the only driver this season to win multiple races. Despite those two wins (Langley & Carteret) Riggs finished a single point behind Jared Fryar for the Late Model Stock championship.

MPI Steering Wheel Most Hard Charger Awards – Ronald Hill

The veteran of 58 CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car starts, Ronald Hill completed his final “full-time” season on the tour with two top ten finishes in route to a 14th place finish in the final standings. Along the way, Hill scored two hard charger awards (Southern National & Hickory) by advancing the most positions from his original qualifying position.

MPM Marketing Hometown Hero Awards – Greenville Pickens Speedway

Over the last three season CARS Tour has awarded free tires for the top three competitors in the tracks weekly Late Model Stock points championship to battle against the touring stars. This season Greenville-Pickens Speedway hosted the season finale, $30,000 to win Old North State Nationals. The big money event brought the South Carolina drivers out to compete. All three of the track’s Late Model Stock points leaders (Cameron Bolin, Janson Marchbanks, Magnum Tate) took advantage of the MPM Marketing Hometown Hero award of free tires, making it the most utilized of the 2020 season.

SUPER LATE MODELS

Mahle Most Pole Awards – Trevor Noles

The Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina driver dominated qualifying all season long in 2020. Noles scored poles in five (Southern National, Hickory, Jennerstown, Hickory, Florence) of the seven races he competed in. No other driver would score more than a single pole award all season long besides Noles. Despite being fast in qualifying, Noles only managed a fourth place finish in the final championship standings with one win, four top five, and six top ten finishes.

RW Engines Most Hard Charger Awards – Carson Kvapil

Carson Kvapil competed on a regular basis with the CARS Tour in 2020 for the first time in his career racing seven of the eight scheduled events. While qualifying wasn’t one of Kvapil’s attributes, he was an ace at coming up through the field. Kvapil’s two (Southern National & Hickory) RW Engines hard chargers propelled him to a fifth place finish in the final championship standings.
